Send it at one person

A meme in the group is a broadcast. A meme to one person is a gift.

The group can wait

The group chat is where a joke goes to be seen. The chat with one person is where a joke goes to land. Most sends mix these up. The same picture gets dropped in the group, and then it feels like nothing happened.

A broadcast needs a joke anyone can get. A send needs a joke only they would get. If you could forward it to three other people without changing a word, it is not theirs yet.

Start from them

Start from the person, not from a hunt for something funny. What did they just claim, deny, or do. The picture is the reply to that.

If you have to type "this is so you" under it, the picture did not say it. Either find the picture that already says it, or do not send.

One is the whole message

A stack of six means you were not sure. They react to the first and ignore the rest, or they feel performed at. Pick the one that would make them say your name out loud.

Send it where they will see it alone. The group can have the joke later, if they bring it there. In the group they have to perform a reaction. With you, they get to be the person it was for.
